Chicken nuggets recalled by Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall affects 90,000 pounds

Great Value brand chicken nuggets have been recalled from Wal-Mart stores. One pound, 13 ounce packages of Great Value chicken nuggets are recalled. Manufactured by Perdue, these nuggets have blue plastic in them.

Stores recall chicken nuggets

The Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall was called by Perdue Farms, Inc. and also the USDA on July 21. Chunks of blue plastic were found in the nuggets and packages. The standards for the recall are:

  • Bags that weigh in at one pound, 13 ounces
  • Great Value brand labeling
  • P-33944 as the Establishment Number
  • Identified with case code 89008 A0160

If you do have a bag of the recalled chicken nuggets, you just need to return it to the Wal-Mart for a refund. The companies will end up paying the whole cost of the recall — estimated at $ 500,000.

Blue plastic causes chicken nugget recall

The Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall is considered a “Class II” recall. The translation of this is that you will find no “adverse health consequences” and no injuries. According to Perdue Farms, a “small plastic ring” got mixed in with the raw meat.

Making your own chicken nuggets

It is possible to have chicken nuggets without worrying about the Wal-Mart chicken nugget recall. It is simple, fast, and healthy to make your own nuggets. The cost for homemade chicken nuggets clocks in at less than $ 1 per four-ounce serving. Start by chopping boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken tenders into chunks. Mix bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and seasonings such as basil together. Dunk the chicken nuggets in a liquid like milk or butter, and then coat with bread crumbs. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10 to 20 minutes. If you would like a true fast food taste, deep-fat fry them at 450 for three to five minutes.
