Jon Stewart able to capture majority with Rally to Restore Sanity

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert created a brilliant plan where, as announced on September 16, dueling public rallies can be on Television. The dueling events, scheduled for the National Mall on Oct. 30, satirize fellow comic Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally that took place at the Lincoln Memorial in Aug. The Daily Show is where Stewart appeared to announce the “Rally to Restore Sanity.” In Response, Stephen Colbert used the Colbert Report to announce the “March to Keep Fear Alive”.

Stewart and Colbert respond to radical fringe in this way

It only took three weeks for Glenn Beck to obtain smacked within the face after his “Restoring Honor” rally held in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Stewart and Colbert made announcements for their rallies then. Beck had his event at the very same place and on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, which offended numerous, reports CNN. Website logos and icons created for the Colbert/Stewart rallies mock Beck’s with the very same type fonts and stylized images. According to the National Park Service, Stewart and Colbert have a permit to collect on the Washington Monument grounds Oct. 30.

As outlined by Stewart, they will “Take it down a notch for America”

Announcing the Rally to Restore Sanity, Stewart appealed to the majority of Americans he called “the 70 to 80 percenters” who don’t have extreme political views. The signs he wanted to use for the event said things for instance “I disagree with you, however I’m fairly sure you’re not Hitler” and “I am not scared of Muslims/Tea Partiers/Socialists/Immigrants/Gun Owners/Gay…but I am scared of Spiders.” Comedy Central ended by showing the tagline. The rally’s tagline will say, “Take it down a notch for The United States.”

Colbert says ” … freak out for freedom!”Then there’s Colbert saying, ” … freak out for freedom!”

Stephen Colbert made a nice announcement for many after. This announced the rally known as “The March to Keep Fear Alive” which is meant to help with Stewart’s. Colbert said we should “not take it down a notch.” Then he said something else. He said, “Now is the time for all good men to freak out for freedom!” Time reports that buzz for Colbert to satirize Beck with his own rally began on Reddit.com last week. A site was created by Reddit users for the event. This website is named after a Colbert catchphrase, “Restoring Truthiness”. Restoring Truthiness did really well in its first day, being able to donate to DonorsChoose.org. The organization, which Colbert is a board member of, got $100,000 donated that day.

Midterms have only had a moderate amount of rallying

By staging the rallies and entering the political debate, Stewart and Colbert just might influence the November midterm elections. The rallies may be more helpful to democrats than to republicans. Marc Ambeinder from the Atlantic explains this. Glen Beck does not seem to have as many viewers on Fox News as the Daily Show and also the Colbert Report seem to have. This is because there are more young liberals around that like to fight than there are old conservatives. Ambeinder explained that many young people may become interested in politics with Stewart and Colbert striking a bit of enthusiasm. Numerous young individuals have just ignored politics because of the Tea Party and extremists on TV.
