Michelle Obama faces criticism for expensive vacation in Spain

First lady Michelle Obama is being targeted for taking a private, expensive trip to Spain with daughter Sasha and several friends of the Obama family, according to Fox News. Naturally, anything the first family does, whether private or not, is always a public affair, as the media is already towering over Mrs. Obama’s each movement. Everybody now wants a piece of the pie, hungering to know everything the first lady’s private trip entails.

First lady vacations in Spain, where travel warning was issued

When President Obama dined with talk show mega-star Oprah Winfrey in Chicago for his 49th birthday, first lady Michelle Obama took 9-year-old Sasha and a number of friends of the family on a getaway getaway in Spain. The trip was described by the White House as a four-day “private trip” to the beautiful southern coast of the country. While some are avoiding talking about the trip’s price, others are voicing concerns of safety.

The State Department, as outlined by Fox News, had issued a travel warning for all Americans traveling to Spain, as “racist prejudices can result in the arrest of Afro-Americans who travel to Spain,” a message lately posted on its website. Nevertheless, after the first lady and daughter Sasha left on their trip, it appears the wording has been quickly removed. When asked if there was a travel warning for Spain, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said, “I do not believe so.”

Who will pay for the first lady’s expensive trip trip to Spain?

The biggest problem concerning numerous citizens regarding the first lady’s vacation trip to Spain is the price of the trip and just how it affects taxpayer dollars. New York Daily News writer Andrea Tantaros trash-talked Michelle Obama on Thursday, calling her a “modern day Marie Antoinette” for going on such an costly escape when the majority of the United States is financially underwater. According to Yahoo News, the first lady and companions are staying at the luxury Hotel Villa Padierna, often described as one of the world’s top 10 hotels, with rates that range from $ 500 to $ 2,500 a night.

Regardless of who’s responsible for choosing the location, whether it was the Obama delegation or Secret Service, who generally has the last say on where the protected resides, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stated that the first lady, as well as the private entourage traveling with her, will pay for each and every personal expense. The overall cost of the trip, however, will not be fully covered with personal out-of-the-pocket money, given the first lady has full-time Secret Service protection and has to travel on board an official Air Force charter plane, which is covered by taxpayers.
